Delhi EV Charging Stations to Get Real-Time Dashboard Under New Policy
Delhi EV Stations to Get Real-Time Dashboard

The Delhi government is creating a new dashboard for electric vehicle owners. This platform will provide real-time data on EV charging stations across the city. Officials say the information will include precise locations, station capacity, and current availability.

Addressing Current Data Issues

A senior Transport department official explained the need for this system. Existing portals like Switch Delhi and the One Delhi app contain charging station details. However, the department found this data is often inaccurate or confusing for users.

"We receive complaints about the data," the official stated. "For example, a portal might list a battery swapping facility at a location where it does not actually exist on the ground."

Features of the Planned Dashboard

The proposed dashboard aims to solve these problems. It will offer comprehensive information before drivers reach a charging point. Key features will include:

  • Interactive maps showing charging station locations
  • Exact number of charging points at each station
  • Station capacity and estimated waiting times
  • Clear details on battery swapping facility availability

The goal is to prevent long queues and wasted trips for EV users, the official emphasized.

Development Under EV Policy 2.0

This dashboard project will form part of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0. The policy is currently in the drafting stage. The existing EV policy expires at the end of March. Officials expect to finalize and notify the revised policy before that deadline.

"The EV 2.0 final draft will be ready this fiscal year," an official confirmed. "Implementation will follow soon after the current policy lapses."

Current Charging Infrastructure in Delhi

At present, the Transport department itself has not installed any charging stations. However, other agencies have established infrastructure across the capital.

Official data reveals Delhi currently has:

  1. 5,883 charging stations
  2. 8,912 individual charging points
  3. 893 battery swapping stations

These include facilities set up by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and other entities. Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) has installed 620 charging points and 60 swapping stations. Under the government's Single Window Scheme operated by discoms, 625 stations with 1,607 points are operational.

Expansion Plans and New Incentives

The government has ambitious targets for charging infrastructure. A document notes Delhi requires 36,150 charging stations. To promote clean mobility, officials plan to install around 7,000 new stations by year-end.

The new EV policy will likely introduce fresh provisions to boost infrastructure development. One significant change involves increasing the incentive for battery swapping stations. The subsidy is set to double from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 12 lakh per station.

Focus on Two-Wheelers and Broader Goals

The policy revision specifically targets Delhi's 5.8 million two-wheelers. It will offer subsidies and scrappage incentives to encourage their transition to electric. The government aims to dramatically increase public charging and swapping points. The target is to expand from the current 9,000 points to 36,000.

Additional measures are also under consideration. These include interest subvention for commercial trucks and three-wheelers. Benefits linked to the central government's PM E-Drive scheme may further facilitate the shift to cleaner fuels.

The creation of an open EV database is a central component of these efforts. This system will maintain real-time information on all charging and battery swapping stations. It represents a major step toward supporting Delhi's growing electric vehicle ecosystem.
