GBA Joins BDA to Plant 15 Lakh Saplings in Bengaluru

The Garuda Building Association (GBA) has partnered with the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to plant 15 lakh saplings across 314 locations in Bengaluru. The mass plantation drive, organized on the occasion of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti, aims to set a world record.

Partnership Details

The collaboration between GBA and BDA will see saplings planted in various parts of the city, including parks, roadsides, and other public spaces. The drive is part of a larger effort to increase green cover in Bengaluru, which has seen rapid urbanization in recent years.

According to BDA officials, the target of 15 lakh saplings is ambitious but achievable with the support of citizen groups and associations like GBA. The plantation will be carried out over a single day, with volunteers from both organizations coordinating the effort.

World Record Ambition

The authorities are aiming to create a world record through this mass plantation drive. The event is being organized on Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti, which commemorates the founder of Bengaluru. The choice of date adds cultural significance to the environmental initiative.

“This is not just about planting trees; it’s about setting a benchmark for urban reforestation,” said a BDA spokesperson. “With GBA’s involvement, we are confident of achieving our goal and inspiring other cities to follow suit.”

Logistics and Implementation

The 314 locations have been identified across Bengaluru, including areas in the newly developed Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. Saplings of native species will be used to ensure high survival rates. The BDA will provide saplings, tools, and technical guidance, while GBA will mobilize volunteers and manage on-ground coordination.

Post-plantation, a monitoring mechanism will be put in place to track the growth of the saplings. The authorities have also planned a maintenance schedule for watering and protection of the young trees.

Community Participation

The drive encourages active participation from residents and local organizations. GBA has been reaching out to its members and the broader community to join the effort. The association believes that such initiatives foster a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the environment.

“We are thrilled to be part of this historic event,” said a GBA representative. “Our members are eager to contribute to making Bengaluru greener and setting a world record.”

The plantation drive is scheduled to take place on the morning of Kempegowda Jayanti, with activities planned throughout the day. The BDA has urged citizens to participate and support the initiative.
