Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme next week, providing crucial financial support to millions of farmers across India.
Key Details of the 21st Installment
According to an official statement from Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Prime Minister Modi will disburse the 21st PM-KISAN installment on November 19, 2025. This continues the government's flagship initiative that has been operational since its launch on February 24, 2019.
The scheme provides ₹6,000 per year to eligible farmer families, distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. So far, the program has made a significant impact, with over ₹3.70 lakh crore disbursed to more than 11 crore farmer families through the previous 20 installments.
Eligibility and Registration Requirements
To receive PM-KISAN benefits, farmers must meet specific criteria. Land details must be properly seeded on the PM-KISAN portal, and beneficiaries must have bank accounts linked with Aadhaar for direct transfer of funds.
The central government has conducted numerous village-level saturation campaigns to identify, verify, and include all eligible land-owning farmers under the scheme. These efforts aim to ensure that no deserving farmer is excluded from receiving financial assistance.
Impact and Future Initiatives
A study conducted by the International Food Policy Research Institute in 2019 highlighted the scheme's positive effects. The research found that PM-KISAN funds have acted as a strong catalyst in rural economic growth, helping farmers overcome credit constraints and increase investments in agricultural inputs.
The funds have enabled farmers to purchase necessary farm inputs while also supporting other essential expenses such as education, medical needs, and marriage ceremonies.
Looking ahead, the agriculture ministry is developing a comprehensive farmer registry. This well-organized database will simplify access to social welfare benefits, eliminating cumbersome processes for farmers seeking government support.
The continued implementation of PM-KISAN demonstrates the government's commitment to strengthening India's agricultural sector and supporting the livelihoods of farming communities nationwide.
