In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Pedakakani police have dismantled a local cannabis network, arresting 14 persons and confiscating close to 5 kilograms of ganja in Guntur district. The operation, based on specific intelligence, led to the seizure of the contraband and exposed a pattern of substance abuse and related criminal activity in the area.
Police Raid Unearths Drug Trade Network
Acting on reliable information about the storage, sale, and consumption of ganja in Pedakakani village, police teams conducted coordinated raids at multiple suspected locations. One of the key spots was an abandoned shed situated near the local Primary Health Centre. Upon seeing the police, several suspects tried to flee the scene but were captured after a short chase.
From four individuals allegedly acting as peddlers, the police recovered a substantial quantity of about 4.8 kg of ganja. The arrested sellers were identified as Mutyala Ramana Rao alias Rocky, Noone Yohanu, Omkar, and Vemuri Sharon alias Rakesh.
Interrogation Reveals Supply Chain and Consumer List
During questioning, the accused revealed that they were sourcing the cannabis from suppliers located outside Guntur district. They would then distribute it locally, selling it in small packets to consumers in and around Pedakakani mandal. Following the leads provided by these sellers, the police identified and apprehended 10 more individuals who had purchased and consumed the drug.
From these users, authorities recovered approximately 150 grams of cannabis, already packed into small sachets for retail sale. All 14 arrested persons reportedly admitted to their involvement in buying, selling, or consuming ganja.
Past Criminal Records and Ongoing Investigation
At a press conference held at the district police office on Sunday, Guntur Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal provided details of the case. He stated that a verification of records indicated that some of those arrested had previous criminal cases registered against them. These past offences included charges related to ganja, theft, and physical assaults.
SP Jindal emphasized that this pointed to a recurring pattern of illegal activity and substance abuse in the region. All the accused have been formally charged under the stringent NDPS Act and will be presented before a court for remand proceedings.
The police chief confirmed that investigations are actively continuing to trace the original source of the ganja and identify other players involved in the broader supply chain. Reiterating the department's commitment, SP Vakul Jindal asserted that strict action will be taken to curb drug trafficking with the ultimate goal of making Guntur district drug-free.
