A tragic road accident in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy on Saturday. According to police, a tempo collided with the motorcycle he was riding, and the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
Details of the Incident
The victim was riding pillion with a friend, also a minor, when the tempo struck them. He lived with his parents in a jhuggi in Haiderpur's Ambedkar Nagar. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Akanksha Yadav confirmed that the boy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.
Chief Minister's Response
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who represents the area in the Delhi assembly, expressed grief over the death. She attributed the incident to roadside encroachments, stating that such obstructions worsen traffic conditions and increase accident risks despite infrastructure upgrades. Gupta noted that a similar incident had earlier claimed the life of a five-year-old child.
Citing a recent Delhi High Court order, Gupta announced that over 140 illegal constructions on Road number 320 would be removed. She added that an underpass from Azadpur to Outer Ring Road near Mukarba Chowk had failed to ease congestion due to these encroachments.
Another Accident in East Delhi
In a separate incident, an auto driver was injured after a car allegedly rammed his three-wheeler in east Delhi's Shakarpur. Three passengers escaped unhurt. The auto driver has been hospitalized, and police are investigating the case.
Authorities urge all road users to follow safety measures, including wearing helmets and adhering to traffic rules, to prevent such tragedies.
