Tragic Accident Claims Life of 17-Month-Old Girl at Hisar Brick Kiln
In a heartbreaking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 17-month-old girl was crushed to death by a water tanker at a brick kiln near Khanda village in the Narnaund police station area of Hansi. The tragic event unfolded on Friday morning, leaving a family devastated and raising serious questions about safety measures at industrial sites.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The young victim has been identified as Kavitra, who was playing near the brick kiln when the accident occurred around 9 am. According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, a water tanker arrived at the site as part of routine operations. As the driver maneuvered the vehicle forward, the toddler, who was in close proximity to the moving tanker, came under its wheels and was run over.
Workers at the brick kiln heard desperate screams and immediately rushed to the scene. They found the child critically injured and acted swiftly, transporting her to the General Hospital in Narnaund for emergency medical attention. Given the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to Hansi Civil Hospital for advanced care.
A Family Already Grappling with Loss
The tragedy is compounded by the family's recent history of misfortune. Kavitra's mother, Sarita Devi, revealed that the child's father passed away approximately 17 months ago, leaving the family in a vulnerable position. Originally from Pauwaiyan in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, the family had recently migrated to work at the brick kiln in search of livelihood opportunities.
Sarita Devi now finds herself grieving the loss of her youngest child while caring for her elder daughter. The incident highlights the precarious circumstances faced by migrant workers and their families, who often live and work in environments with inadequate safety protocols.
Police Investigation and Community Response
Local authorities have taken cognizance of the incident, with the Narnaund police station registering a case and launching a thorough investigation. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the accident occurred due to a combination of factors, including the child's proximity to moving machinery and potential lapses in safety supervision.
The investigation will examine multiple aspects, including:
- The driver's actions and awareness of surroundings
- Safety measures implemented at the brick kiln site
- Supervision of children in industrial work areas
- Compliance with workplace safety regulations
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of stringent safety protocols, particularly in environments where heavy machinery operates in close proximity to residential or play areas. Community members and labor rights advocates are calling for enhanced safety measures and greater awareness to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
