Major Drug Bust in Chittorgarh: Police Seize 178 Kg of Illegal Opium Poppy Husk

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Bhadesra police in Chittorgarh district executed a major operation on Monday, resulting in the seizure of 178 kilograms of illegal opium poppy husk from a vehicle. The action underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes in the region.

Police Action to Prevent Narcotics Trafficking

Chittorgarh Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi emphasized that this seizure was part of a broader initiative to prevent the trafficking of illegal narcotics within the district. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Sarita Singh, highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are addressing this issue.

A specialized team was formed, led by Bhadesra Station House Officer Vinod Menaria, to patrol the area intensively. This proactive approach aimed to intercept any suspicious activities and disrupt the supply chain of illicit drugs.

Details of the Seizure Operation

During the patrol, police officers spotted a suspicious Hyundai Creta car and immediately initiated a chase. The driver, upon realizing he was being pursued, abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled on foot, evading capture for the time being.

Upon searching the abandoned car, authorities discovered the illegal opium poppy husk concealed in 13 plastic sacks. The contraband was promptly seized, and the vehicle was impounded as evidence. The total weight of the seized material amounted to 178 kg, marking one of the larger drug hauls in the district recently.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Police are actively searching for the car owner and the driver involved in this incident. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which carries stringent penalties for offenses related to drug trafficking and possession.

This seizure not only disrupts a potential distribution network but also sends a strong message to those involved in illegal narcotics trade. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing such operations to safeguard the community from the harms of drug abuse.
