The Panchkula police have apprehended two juveniles in connection with a two-wheeler theft ring, recovering three stolen motorcycles and one scooter from their possession. The arrests were made during a routine patrol near Bir Ghaggar village, according to Rampal Singh, SHO of Chandimandir police station.
Details of the Recovery
During the initial investigation, it was found that one motorcycle had been stolen from Sector 6, Panchkula, while two other motorcycles and one scooter were stolen from the Manimajra area of Chandigarh. The juveniles had hidden the stolen vehicles at different locations in Bir Ghaggar village.
The police received information during a routine patrol that two youths from Bir Ghaggar village were coming towards the National Highway on a Hero Splendor motorcycle without a number plate and were planning to sell it. The police set up a checkpoint on the road leading from Bir Ghaggar village to the National Highway. On seeing the police, they tried to escape. However, ASI Praveen Kumar and his team apprehended the juveniles along with the motorcycle.
Legal Proceedings
A case under Sections 303(5) and 317(2) of the BNS was registered at the Chandimandir police station on July 7. Since both were found to be below 18 years of age, they were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and were subsequently sent to a juvenile correction home.
Drug Trafficker Arrested Separately
In a separate incident, the Panchkula police arrested an interstate drug trafficker and recovered 311 gm of heroin, valued at over Rs 60 lakh in the international market. Mukesh Kumar (33), a resident of Mataur village in Kaithal district, was living on rent in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. He was produced before court, which remanded him to three-day police custody.
At a special checkpoint near Saket Hospital flyover in Chandimandir, the police stopped the accused and recovered heroin from him. A case under the NDPS Act was registered at the Chandimandir police station and he was arrested. During questioning, the accused revealed that he had brought heroin from Amritsar and planned to sell it to different customers in the Tricity area and Himachal Pradesh within seven days.
