Late Wednesday night, the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand was struck by tragedy as two separate road accidents claimed three lives and left several others with serious injuries. The incidents, occurring in Kichha and Pantnagar, have once again highlighted the grim issue of road safety in the region.
SUV Overturns Near Kichha, Two Business Partners Killed
In the first and more fatal of the two crashes, a speeding SUV met with a devastating accident near Kichha. According to police reports, the vehicle was returning from Haldwani to Sitarganj when the driver lost control. The SUV overturned multiple times before hurtling into a field and finally crashing into an electric pole.
The impact of the collision was severe. Two young men, identified as 18-year-old Yuganpreet Singh and 27-year-old Mohammad Saif, died on the spot. Both were residents of Sitarganj and, in a tragic twist, were business partners who jointly operated a mobile phone shop in the town. A third individual, Sohail Ansari, sustained critical injuries in the crash. The bodies of the deceased were sent for a post-mortem examination as part of the standard investigative procedure.
Head-On Bike Collision in Pantnagar Proves Fatal
Almost simultaneously, a second accident unfolded in the Pantnagar area. This incident involved a head-on collision between two motorcycles, leaving four youngsters seriously wounded. Despite medical efforts, one of the injured, a 23-year-old local resident named Irfan, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Sub-inspector Hem Singh Dagariya, who is overseeing the investigations into both cases, provided preliminary details. "The causes of both accidents are being investigated. Preliminary findings suggest excessive speeding was a major factor," he stated. He further confirmed that the condition of the other injured persons across both incidents remains serious.
Investigation Underway, Road Safety in Focus
The local police have launched full investigations into the precise circumstances that led to these twin tragedies. While speed is initially suspected to be the primary culprit, all angles are being examined. These back-to-back accidents have sent shockwaves through the communities of Sitarganj and Pantnagar, bringing the perennial issue of reckless driving and road safety infrastructure sharply into focus.
The loss of young lives, particularly that of the two entrepreneurs in the prime of their careers, has cast a pall of grief over the district. The incidents serve as a stark and somber reminder for motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise utmost caution, especially during night travel.
