A tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district claimed five lives and left 11 others injured when a speeding canter truck collided with a stationary state transport bus late Thursday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm near Keelarmau village in the Bagwala area along the Etah-Aliganj road, according to officials.
Details of the Crash
The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus, belonging to the Etah depot, was en route from Farrukhabad to Delhi when it developed a mechanical fault. The driver pulled over to the roadside for repairs, and several passengers disembarked and were standing nearby. At that moment, a canter truck traveling at high speed struck the bus from behind, crushing those outside.
District Magistrate Arvind Singh confirmed that four individuals—Rajesh (34), Sukhram (42), Shailesh (32), and an unidentified man—died at the scene. A fifth unidentified person succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, Singh added.
Injuries and Medical Response
The 11 injured passengers were admitted to the Government Medical College in Etah. Principal Dr. Balveer Singh reported that most of the injured are out of danger and receiving appropriate care. The hospital has mobilized resources to handle the influx of patients.
Investigation Underway
A case has been registered, and an investigation into the accident has been initiated. Preliminary inquiries indicate that the crash was caused by overspeeding and negligent driving on the part of the canter truck driver, according to District Magistrate Singh. Authorities are working to identify the driver and determine if any other factors contributed to the collision.

This incident highlights ongoing road safety challenges in Uttar Pradesh, particularly on state highways where heavy vehicles often exceed speed limits.
