A 69-year-old man, a father and grandfather, was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman with learning disabilities in a village under Lunawada taluka in Panchmahal district, Gujarat. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the woman went for her routine walk.
Details of the Incident
The accused, a distant relative of the victim, allegedly called her into his house and raped her. According to Lunawada Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Vasava, the man sent his wife out to buy milk before calling the woman inside. Sources indicate that the accused used a pillow to muffle the woman's cries.
Despite her disabilities, the woman was able to communicate the assault to her parents, who noticed her dishevelled clothes when she returned home. An FIR was registered on Thursday, leading to the accused's arrest on Friday.
Medical Examinations and Family Background
Medical examinations have been conducted on both the accused and the victim. Vasava stated that further tests, including a potency test, may be carried out on the accused. The man has two sons and a daughter, all married and settled outside the village with children of their own.
