The Dehlon police have registered a case against seven individuals, including four unidentified suspects, for the alleged murder of 70-year-old Sawinder Singh Binder, a resident of Tibba village and brother of the former village sarpanch. The accused named in the First Information Report (FIR) are Megh Singh, his son Golu, Gopi Pandit, and four unknown accomplices.
Land dispute led to fatal assault
According to the police, a land dispute between two parties is believed to be the motive behind the murder. Sawinder had gone to the site to mediate and pacify the warring groups when the attack occurred.
The FIR was lodged based on a statement from Paramjit Kaur, the victim's wife. She stated that on Tuesday, her husband had gone with Kewal Singh and others to facilitate a resolution of a land dispute on the outskirts of Tibba village. While Sawinder was trying to calm the situation, the accused allegedly assaulted him and fired a shot that proved fatal.
Accused booked under Arms Act
Investigating officer Pardeep Singh confirmed that the accused have been booked under various sections of the Arms Act. Raids are being conducted to apprehend all suspects, the officer added.
The police are continuing their investigation and efforts to locate the four unknown accused. No arrests have been reported as of the latest update.
