Police Recover 89 Grams of Heroin in Three Separate Operations
The police in Phagwara and Kapurthala have arrested four individuals and recovered a total of 89 grams of heroin in three distinct cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The largest seizure involved 70 grams of heroin recovered from two accused in Phagwara, while separate recoveries of 15 grams and 4 grams were made from two other individuals.
First Case: 70 Grams Heroin Recovered Near Lal Palace
Phagwara Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhvi Sharma informed The Tribune on Sunday that the first case was registered at Phagwara police station after a patrol team intercepted two suspicious persons near Lal Palace. The accused were identified as Lalit Kumar, a resident of Garha village in Jalandhar district, and Gurpreet, alias Deepa, currently residing at Chak Hakim village in Phagwara. According to the police, the duo attempted to flee upon spotting the patrol team but were apprehended. During a search, police recovered 70 grams of heroin from their possession. A case under Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against both men.
Second Operation: 4 Grams Seized from Pavittar Singh
In a separate incident, police arrested Pavittar Singh of Daduwal village in Jalandhar district after allegedly recovering 4 grams of heroin from his possession during routine patrolling. A case under the NDPS Act was registered, and further investigation has been initiated.
Third Arrest: 15 Grams Recovered Near Sukh Sagar Colony
In the third operation, Harbinder Singh, alias Panju, of Mehtabgarh in Kapurthala city was arrested after police allegedly recovered 15 grams of heroin from him near Sukh Sagar Colony. According to the police, the accused tried to flee upon noticing the patrol party but was apprehended and searched, leading to the recovery.
Investigation Underway to Trace Source of Contraband
SP Madhvi Sharma stated that investigations are underway in all three cases to trace the source of the contraband. The police are working to identify the suppliers and networks involved in the distribution of heroin in the region.
