Agra: The General Manager of the Jal Kal department, Arunendra Kumar Rajput, has been suspended on allegations of corruption involving more than Rs 4.3 crore. He has been attached to the Lucknow headquarters pending further inquiry.
Details of Alleged Financial Irregularities
Sources in the municipal department of Agra on Friday informed the Times of India that the alleged financial irregularities include several major components. These comprise Rs 1 crore linked to pipeline repair and laying work, Rs 2.5 crore in water harvesting projects, and Rs 80 lakh in the purchase of sluice valves.
Committee Investigation and Action
A committee confirmed large-scale discrepancies in these projects, prompting municipal commissioner Ankit Khandelwal to freeze Rajput’s financial powers and recommend disciplinary action. The suspension order was issued following the committee's findings.
The development has raised concerns about governance in the Jal Kal department, which is responsible for water supply and sanitation in Agra.
