Ahmedabad wedding party attacked after wrong-side crash

A routine journey to a pre-wedding celebration in Ahmedabad descended into chaos and violence on Sunday night, leaving multiple people injured and a car vandalized. The incident, which highlights escalating road rage, occurred near the Raipur Darwaza area after a collision involving a car and a two-wheeler rider traveling from the wrong direction.

From Celebration to Confrontation: How the Incident Unfolded

The trouble began around 10:30 PM on Sunday near the Maninagar football ground. A 53-year-old resident of Rakhial was driving four female relatives to a mehndi function in Dariapur. As the car proceeded towards Raipur Darwaza, a two-wheeler allegedly entered the road from the wrong side near a tea stall and rammed into the vehicle. The impact caused the rider to fall.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Kagdapith police station, the situation quickly escalated from an accident to an aggressive confrontation. Upon getting up, the two-wheeler rider allegedly held the car driver responsible and demanded compensation for the damage. When the driver refused, asserting he was not at fault, the rider reportedly blocked the car's path and began issuing threats.

Rapid Escalation Leads to Stone-Pelting and Injuries

Fearing for their safety, the women inside the car alerted their relatives, who rushed to the spot. The argument intensified when two acquaintances of the accused rider arrived and joined the altercation. The verbal clash soon turned physical.

The FIR states that the three accused then picked up stones from the roadside and began hurling them at the wedding party. The attack shattered the car's windows. In the ensuing stone-pelting, three relatives of the complainant who had come to his aid sustained injuries to their heads and hands. As a crowd gathered at the scene, the attackers allegedly fled.

Aftermath and Legal Action Under New Laws

The injured individuals were subsequently treated at the SVP Hospital. The women, shaken but unharmed, continued their journey home with other relatives. Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged on Monday at the Kagdapith police station.

The police have invoked serious sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges for causing hurt by dangerous means, assault, criminal intimidation, rash driving, criminal mischief, and acts endangering public safety. Relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act have also been applied in the case. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend the accused.

This violent episode in the heart of Ahmedabad serves as a stark reminder of how quickly minor traffic disputes can spiral out of control, endangering public safety and disrupting lives.
