Pune police have uncovered a chilling premeditated murder plot after discovering that Siya Goyal, a 28-year-old woman, conducted multiple Google searches on 'how to get away with murder' in the days leading up to the killing of her fiancé, Ketan Agarwal. The revelation has sent shockwaves through the community and raised questions about the nature of their relationship.
Search History Reveals Premeditation
According to police officials, forensic analysis of Siya Goyal's smartphone revealed a series of disturbing searches made between June 18 and June 24, 2026. The searches included phrases such as 'how to get away with murder', 'stages of murder investigation', and 'how to dispose of a body'. The final search was made just hours before Agarwal's body was discovered at their shared apartment in Pune's Koregaon Park area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Pandey stated, "The search history clearly indicates that the murder was premeditated. The accused had planned the crime meticulously, researching methods to evade detection. This is a cold-blooded killing, not a crime of passion."
The Murder and Initial Investigation
Ketan Agarwal, a 30-year-old software engineer, was found dead in the apartment he shared with Siya Goyal on the morning of June 25. He had been strangled, and there were signs of a struggle. Goyal initially claimed that an unknown intruder had broken in and attacked them, but inconsistencies in her statement led police to question her further.
During interrogation, Goyal broke down and confessed to the murder, admitting that she had been planning it for weeks. She cited a heated argument over wedding expenses as the immediate trigger, but investigators believe there may have been deeper motives, including financial disputes and a possible extramarital affair.
Evidence and Forensic Findings
Police recovered several pieces of evidence from the crime scene, including a ligature used for strangulation and a diary containing notes on murder methods. The forensic team also found that Goyal had attempted to clean the apartment to remove traces of blood and fingerprints. However, they missed a crucial piece of evidence: a pair of gloves with Agarwal's DNA under Goyal's bed.
Senior forensic expert Dr. Anjali Deshmukh commented, "The accused tried to cover her tracks, but she left behind a trail of digital and physical evidence. The search history alone is enough to establish premeditation."
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Siya Goyal has been charged with murder, destruction of evidence, and giving false information to police. She is currently in judicial custody and will face trial in the Pune Sessions Court. If convicted, she could face life imprisonment or the death penalty, given the premeditated nature of the crime.
The case has garnered widespread media attention, with many drawing parallels to popular crime dramas. However, legal experts caution against sensationalism. Advocate Priya Sharma noted, "While the search history is damning, the court will also consider the accused's mental state and any mitigating factors. It's important to let the judicial process take its course."
