Amritsar Police Arrest 10, Seize Drugs and Illegal Arms

The Amritsar Rural Police have arrested 10 individuals and seized a significant cache of drugs and illegal weapons during multiple operations conducted across the district. The seizures included 10.94 kg of heroin, 1.019 kg of ICE (crystal meth), 11 illegal pistols, and Rs 52,000 in suspected drug money, along with a large quantity of ammunition.

Details of Arrests and Seizures

Among those arrested were Gursahib Singh of Dhanoe Kalan village, Sawinder Singh (alias Shinda) of Sarai Amanat Khan village in Tarn Taran, Amritpal Singh of Jathaul Kalan village, Gurkamal Singh of Dadde Kalas village in Khalra, Tarn Taran, Gurpreet Singh (alias Gopi) of Butari village, Sunny of Ladeh, Lovejit Singh of Sarai, Gursewak Singh of Phulechak village, Swaraj Singh of Teda Kalan, and Rawaljit Singh of Timmowal village.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal, addressing a press conference, stated that in a major operation, police seized 8.48 kg of heroin and five pistols from Gursahib Singh and Sawinder Singh. Additionally, Rs 52,000 believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking was recovered from them.

Operations Across Police Stations

In a separate operation, the Gharinda police arrested Amritpal Singh, recovering 460 grams of heroin, two pistols, and 15 live bullets. Another case led to the seizure of 1.019 kg of ICE drug from Gurkamal Singh and Gurpreet Singh, also by the Gharinda police station.

Meanwhile, four more suspects were arrested in Ajnala with three illegal pistols and 14 live cartridges. The Kathunangal police additionally seized 2 kg of heroin in a separate operation.

Properties of Drug Smugglers Frozen

In a significant move under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the police froze properties worth over Rs 1.20 crore belonging to three alleged drug smugglers. Authorities confirmed that proceedings are underway to freeze the assets of more than 80 other accused individuals linked to the narcotics trade.

SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said investigations are ongoing to identify the backward and forward linkages of the accused, aiming to dismantle the entire drug network operating in the region.
