In a significant crackdown, the Amritsar Police have successfully dismantled an international drug smuggling network with direct links to operatives based in Pakistan. The operation led to the arrest of seven individuals and the recovery of a substantial cache of narcotics and a sophisticated firearm.
Major Haul of Drugs and Weapon
Commissioner of Police, Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, announced that the police team seized a total of 4 kilograms of heroin and 1 kilogram of ICE (methamphetamine). Alongside the drugs, authorities also confiscated a Glock 9mm pistol, indicating the armed and dangerous nature of the syndicate.
Key Accused with Criminal Histories
Among those arrested, three have been identified as hardened criminals with extensive records. They are Judgebir Singh alias Judge, Jaspal Singh alias Jass, and Davinder Singh alias Bau. Police confirmed that all three are history-sheeters with prior cases registered against them under serious charges, including the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Arms Act, and even attempt to murder.
The remaining four accused are said to be active operatives who played crucial roles in the network's logistics. Their responsibilities included receiving consignments, storing the narcotics securely, and distributing them further into the local market.
Pakistan Connection via Social Media
Preliminary investigations have revealed a direct and regular line of communication between the arrested Indian operatives and their handlers across the border. The accused used various social media platforms to receive instructions and coordinate the delivery of drug consignments from Pakistan-based smugglers.
Commissioner Dhillon stated that a thorough investigation is now underway to uncover the full extent of this cross-border operation. The probe aims to identify the Pakistan-based handlers, the financial channels used for transactions, and local facilitators within India. Police are also exploring possible links this network might have with other drug syndicates operating in the region.
More Arrests Likely as Probe Widens
The police have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests and recoveries in the coming days. As the investigation widens, authorities are digging deeper into the network's contacts and operations. This bust is seen as a major blow to the drug trafficking infrastructure attempting to pump narcotics into Punjab via the Pakistan border.
