In a tragic incident in Unnao district, the body of a woman was discovered hanging from a noose in Dandamau village under Bighapur Kotwali area. The woman had arrived at her in-laws' home with her husband, an Army personnel, just five days earlier.
Husband Also Dies by Suicide
Upon learning of his wife's death, the husband, a subedar posted in the Army Medical Corps at Panagarh in Kolkata, also took his own life. The two deaths have plunged the family into deep mourning.
Details of the Incident
Shailendra Pandey (40), a Subedar in the Army, was married to Sadhna (38), a resident of Kanpur, about 12 years ago. Six months after the marriage, he took his wife with him to his posting. According to Shailendra's elder brother Manoj Pandey, a cousin's wedding was scheduled for June 27.
“Five days ago, Shailendra left his wife here and said he would extend his leave and return soon, but Sadhna was not ready for this. Angered by this, she committed suicide by hanging on Tuesday night. Upon learning of this, Shailendra too committed suicide at his duty location,” Manoj said.
Allegations and Investigation
The two deaths caused an uproar. Shailendra's family members have left for Kolkata to collect his body. Meanwhile, the deceased woman's brother Anuj Mishra, a resident of Kanpur, accused the in-laws of murdering his sister. The police conducted an investigation.
The in-laws, however, claimed that even six months after the marriage, Sadhna had attempted suicide by consuming poison. The body has been sent for postmortem examination. The couple leave behind two children: Yatharth and Shanvi.
Police Statement
Inspector Kotwali police station Arvind Singh said that according to family members, both the woman and her husband committed suicide. The woman's body has been sent for postmortem. “Further action will be taken based on the complaint,” he added.
