An auto-rickshaw driver was injured while three passengers escaped unhurt after a car allegedly rammed into the auto-rickshaw from behind in East Delhi's Shakarpur on Saturday.
Accident Details
The autorickshaw was being driven by Sanjay (25). At the time of the accident, he was carrying three passengers, who were labourers from Mallepur, Peepal Pura in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. They were on their way to Anand Vihar Railway Station to board a train to their hometown.
According to police, a car hit the auto from behind, causing severe damage to both vehicles. The impact left the three-wheeled vehicle badly mangled. The driver of the car, along with other occupants, allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police said the vehicle is registered in the name of Kajal, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, Delhi.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and took both damaged vehicles into custody. A crime team also inspected the scene as part of the investigation.
While the passengers escaped without injuries, the auto driver sustained minor injuries in the collision and was provided medical assistance.
Legal Action
A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver and other occupants of the car. The police are examining vehicle registration details and local CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
