BDA Demolishes Unauthorised Buildings in Cambridge Layout

The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) on Wednesday carried out a demolition drive in Cambridge Layout, Domlur, razing two unauthorised structures. The operation was part of the BDA's ongoing efforts to curb illegal constructions in the city.

Details of the Demolition

The first structure was a residential building that had been constructed without obtaining the necessary approvals from the BDA. The second was a commercial complex that was also found to be unauthorised. Both buildings were located in the Cambridge Layout area, which falls under the Domlur ward.

According to BDA officials, the demolition was carried out after repeated notices were issued to the owners, who failed to produce valid documents. The BDA had earlier issued show-cause notices to the property owners, but they did not respond, leading to the demolition.

BDA's Anti-Encroachment Drive

The BDA has been conducting regular inspections and demolition drives across Bengaluru to identify and remove illegal structures. In recent months, the authority has demolished several unauthorised buildings in various parts of the city, including in areas such as Koramangala, Indiranagar, and Whitefield.

Officials stated that the drive would continue in the coming weeks, and property owners were urged to ensure that their constructions comply with the BDA's regulations. The BDA also advised citizens to verify the legality of any property before purchasing or constructing.

Reactions from Residents

Residents of Cambridge Layout expressed mixed reactions to the demolition. Some welcomed the move, stating that it would help maintain the area's planned layout and prevent haphazard development. Others, however, expressed concern over the loss of property, especially for those who may have been unaware of the legal issues.

A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "We understand the need for regulations, but the BDA should also ensure that people are adequately informed before taking such drastic action."

The BDA has assured that all due process was followed, and the owners were given ample opportunity to present their case. The authority also mentioned that it would provide assistance to those who wish to regularise their properties if they meet the necessary criteria.
