FIR Registered Over AI-Generated Defamatory Video
Bengaluru police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified persons for allegedly defaming Chief Minister DK Shivakumar through a social media post. The post, uploaded on the official Facebook page of the Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S), featured a tagline 'Kumaraswamy for CM' and included a video generated by artificial intelligence.
Details of the Complaint
The complaint was filed by an advocate from Bengaluru, prompting the Sadashivnagar police station to register the FIR under various sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act. According to the complaint, the AI-generated video showed Chief Minister DK Shivakumar moving around the city at night with a cloth wrapped on his face, pasting posters on walls. The video was reportedly deleted soon after the FIR was lodged.
A senior police officer stated, 'The post, under the tagline ‘Kumaraswamy For CM’ with a fake video generated by artificial intelligence, shows chief minister DK Shivakumar moving around the city at night with cloth wrapped on the face and pasting posters on the wall. However, the video is said to have been deleted soon after the FIR was lodged.'
Police Investigation Underway
Investigating officers have issued notices to the persons in charge of the JD(S) Facebook account, requesting details of the post, the video, and the individuals who uploaded it. 'We have issued notice to the persons who are in charge of the Facebook account of JD(S), asking them to provide details of the post, video and persons who uploaded it,' an investigating officer said.
The police are continuing their investigation to identify those responsible for creating and disseminating the AI-generated content, which they believe was intended to defame the chief minister and disrupt public order.
