In a significant breakthrough, Kolkata police on Tuesday apprehended one more individual linked to the shocking Bhatpara shooting incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon. The arrest marks a crucial step in the ongoing investigation.
Prime Accused Gang Leader Captured
The latest person to be taken into custody is Babu Sona, identified by the police as a gang leader and the prime accused in the case. Officers arrested him from a suspected hideout located near the Kankinara area. With this development, the total number of arrests in connection with the shooting has now risen to six.
Turf War Suspected as Motive
Investigating officers suspect that the violent incident may be the result of a turf war between rival gangs. The alleged rivalry is between the gangs led by Babu Sona and Sumit Biswas, also known as Mogli. This clash is believed to have escalated into the open firing that startled the locality on Sunday.
Previous Arrests and Police Operation
Following the shooting, police launched extensive search operations across multiple areas including Bhatpara, Naihati, Kankinara, and Jagaddal. These efforts led to the arrest of five individuals a day earlier, on Monday. Those arrested were named as Sumit Biswas, Bikash Ghosh, Jhantu Das, Sushanta Pal, and Biplab.
The arrest of Babu Sona, the alleged mastermind, is seen as a major success for the police force. The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to piece together the full sequence of events and ensure all involved are brought to justice.
