Bhopal Minor Attempts Suicide Following Repeated Harassment
A 12-year-old girl in Bhopal allegedly tried to end her life by consuming pesticide. This desperate act came after she faced repeated harassment from a 26-year-old man in the city. The incident only came to light after the girl spent a week in hospital recovering from her ordeal.
Police Take Swift Action Against Accused
On Thursday, police registered a case against three individuals. They booked the main accused, a woman, and another man under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities have already arrested the primary suspect in this disturbing case.
Timeline of Harassment and Trauma
Police investigations reveal a troubling pattern of abuse. Approximately three months ago, the accused allegedly entered the survivor's home without permission. He then molested the young girl and threatened her to keep silent about the incident. Terrified by his threats, the child did not tell her parents what had happened.
Encouraged by her silence, the man reportedly broke into her house again just ten days ago. This second intrusion happened during the night, and he molested her once more. This time, the girl's mother spotted the intruder and raised an alarm. The accused quickly fled the scene to avoid capture.
Family Response and Tragic Outcome
After the late-night confrontation, the parents told their daughter to go to sleep. They assured her they would address the matter properly in the morning. However, overwhelmed by fear and trauma from the repeated assaults, the girl made a tragic decision.
The next morning, she consumed pesticide in a suicide attempt. Her family immediately rushed her to the hospital where she received intensive medical care. Doctors treated her for a full week before she recovered sufficiently to leave the facility.
Legal Proceedings and Counseling
Hospital authorities submitted a medico-legal report to the police about the incident. Officers then conducted counseling sessions with the minor survivor to help her process the trauma. Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the main accused and his relative.
Authorities arrested the primary suspect in the case. They also booked the woman and the accused's brother for allegedly threatening the survivor's family and assisting the main accused in his actions. The investigation continues as police gather more evidence about this distressing case of harassment against a minor.
