Bhopal Slaughterhouse Sealed After Forensic Confirmation of Illegal Meat

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation took decisive action on January 8. Authorities sealed the Jehangirabad slaughterhouse permanently. This move came after forensic examination confirmed troubling findings about transported meat.

December Interception Sparks Investigation

Everything began on December 17 near the Police Headquarters. Members of a Hindu organization stopped a container truck in the Jehangirabad police station area. The vehicle carried a massive load of 26.5 tonnes of meat.

Activists immediately raised serious allegations. They claimed the consignment contained banned meat. Protesters said the meat was destined for supply outside Madhya Pradesh. Some suggested possible international distribution.

Police responded quickly to the situation. Officers seized both the container and all meat packets. They collected samples for scientific analysis.

Forensic Results Confirm Violations

Authorities sent meat samples to the forensic lab at Veterinary College in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. The laboratory report arrived on January 7. Forensic experts confirmed the meat came from a cow or its progeny.

This finding triggered immediate legal consequences. Cow slaughter remains strictly prohibited under Madhya Pradesh law. The confirmation validated initial suspicions about illegal activity.

Police Launch Formal Case and Special Investigation

Jehangirabad police registered a formal case following the forensic report. They named slaughterhouse operator Aslam Qureshi as an accused. Truck driver Shoaib also faces charges along with other involved individuals.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra announced further action on January 19. He constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the case thoroughly. The SIT will examine all aspects of this alleged illegal meat trafficking operation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Umesh Tiwari will lead the investigation team. Two station house officers will assist him with their respective teams. The team includes SHO Jehangirabad and SHO Shahpura.

Commissioner Mishra explained the investigation scope. The SIT will examine all facts related to the incident. Investigators will check backgrounds of involved individuals. They will explore possible criminal links and previous records.

Police officials stated they will take further action based on investigation findings. Currently, authorities prepare to question close associates of Aslam Qureshi. The probe will also include questioning BMC officials connected to the slaughterhouse.

Nighttime Interception Details Emerge

Police provided additional details about the December interception. The container truck bore a Uttar Pradesh registration number. Authorities stopped the vehicle late at night on December 17.

The interception occurred near Mahila Thana beside Lal Parade Ground. This location sits close to the Police Headquarters. Activists alleged the banned meat originated from Jinsi municipal slaughterhouse.

Protesters claimed the illegal meat supply reached different parts of India. Some suggested possible international distribution channels.

Police reached the spot promptly after receiving information. Veterinary doctors from Jehangirabad Veterinary Hospital collected samples. These samples traveled to Mathura for forensic examination.

Municipal Corporation Takes Disciplinary Action

Police investigation revealed connections to the BMC-operated Jinsi slaughterhouse. This discovery prompted the civic body to seal the facility immediately.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation suspended twelve officials and employees. The suspended individuals include a veterinarian. Disciplinary action demonstrates the seriousness of the violations.

Authorities registered the case under specific legal provisions. They invoked Sections 4, 5 and 9 of the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act, 2004. Police also applied Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Investigation continues as authorities work to unravel the complete trafficking network. Police remain determined to identify everyone involved in this illegal operation.
