Bokaro Police Launches 40-Motorcycle 'Rakshak Riders' Unit for Night Patrols
Bokaro Police Deploys Rakshak Riders for Night Vigil

In a significant move to enhance public safety after dark, the Bokaro district police launched a dedicated motorcycle patrol unit named 'Rakshak Riders' on Saturday. The initiative aims to strengthen night-time vigilance and ensure a quicker police response across the city.

Launch and Strategic Deployment

Superintendent of Police (SP) Harvinder Singh officially flagged off the new unit from the police lines. The unit comprises a fleet of 40 motorcycles and is manned by 75 dedicated police personnel. SP Singh stated that these riders will be strategically deployed across the district, with a focus on areas identified as having a higher prevalence of criminal activities.

"The Rakshak Riders will conduct regular night patrols, particularly in sensitive and vulnerable areas," said SP Harvinder Singh. "This will enable quicker response to incidents and improve surveillance of criminal and anti-social elements. Increased police visibility during night hours will act as a strong deterrent to crime."

Beyond Policing: Building Public Confidence

SP Singh emphasized that the objective of the Rakshak Riders goes beyond routine law enforcement. The initiative is also designed to instill a sense of security among citizens.

"Night patrolling is not only about maintaining surveillance but also about giving confidence and a sense of safety to the public," he explained. "The Rakshak Riders will ensure a strong police presence in sensitive areas and respond swiftly to any untoward incident."

However, the unit will be held accountable for its performance. Police officials clarified that while the riders' primary duty is night patrol, they will be answerable for any failure to curb crimes like thefts or dacoity in their assigned jurisdictions.

A Call for Public Partnership

The launch event, attended by several senior police officers from urban areas, also highlighted the crucial role of community participation in crime prevention. SP Singh appealed for active cooperation from residents.

"A safe city is possible only through active cooperation between the police and citizens," he added. "Even small acts of alertness by the public can make a significant difference in preventing crime."

Alongside the launch, the Bokaro police issued a detailed advisory to the public, urging them to take proactive safety measures:

  • Secure homes, shops, and establishments properly during night hours.
  • Install CCTV cameras and ensure adequate external lighting.
  • Remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities immediately.
  • Verify the credentials of tenants and domestic help.
  • Inform the local police station when leaving homes locked for extended periods.

The police have urged citizens to immediately contact the nearest police station or dial the emergency number 112 to report any suspicious movement. The Rakshak Riders initiative marks a focused effort by Bokaro police to adapt to evolving security challenges and make the city's nights safer for everyone.
