Eight-Year-Old Boy Critically Injured in Celebratory Firing at Bulandshahr Wedding

In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old boy was critically injured after a bullet struck him in the head during celebratory firing at a wedding ceremony in Bulandshahr. The event, which occurred on Thursday night in the city's Sarraf Bazar area, has sparked outrage and concern over gun safety practices.

Police Investigation and Details of the Incident

According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that the shots were fired from a licensed weapon by a 14-year-old boy who was part of the 'baratis' or wedding procession. Bulandshahr city's circle officer, Prakhar Pandey, stated on Friday that the victim, identified as Rehansh, has been shifted to a medical facility in Noida for urgent treatment.

"Rehansh, 8, has been shifted to a medical facility in Noida. His health condition is critical. He underwent a major surgery. We are waiting for a formal complaint. An FIR will be registered, and a process to cancel the arms licence would be initiated," Prakhar Pandey said, emphasizing the severity of the situation and the legal actions underway.

Eyewitness Accounts and Chaotic Scene

An eyewitness who runs a shop in the area described the harrowing moment when Rehansh collapsed in the courtyard after being hit. Doctors at the local hospital immediately referred him to Noida due to the critical nature of his injuries.

Another local resident recounted the chaos that ensued: "People were dancing with excitement when we heard the sound of gunshots. We were later shocked to know that the weapon was in the hands of a teen. Initially, people thought it was part of the celebration, but then some of them started shouting that a boy had been hit. Soon, it became chaotic. A happy wedding celebration sight had turned into a nightmare."

Aftermath and Community Response

The incident has had a profound impact on the community, with local residents reporting that the wedding was subsequently called off. "Some of the family members have gone into hiding after the incident," they added, highlighting the fear and distress that has gripped those involved.

This case underscores the dangers of celebratory firing, a practice that has led to numerous injuries and fatalities in India. Authorities are urging stricter enforcement of gun laws and greater public awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
