In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of fear through Rohtak, a man brutally murdered his own sister inside her beauty parlour located in a busy market area. The Rohtak police confirmed on Thursday that the accused, identified as Lala, slit his sister Maya's throat before stabbing another woman who tried to save her.
The Gruesome Attack in Broad Daylight
The horrific crime unfolded around 10:30 am on Thursday at a beauty parlour near Mata Darwaza Chowk, run by 30-year-old Maya, a resident of Kabir Colony. According to police, her 40-year-old brother Lala forcefully entered the establishment and engaged in a heated argument with Maya. The quarrel quickly escalated into extreme violence.
In a sudden fit of rage, Lala pulled out a knife and attacked his sister, cutting her throat. A co-worker at the parlour, Laxmi, witnessed the assault and rushed to Maya's aid. However, the enraged brother turned on Laxmi as well, stabbing her before fleeing the scene.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Investigation
The screams of the women alerted nearby shopkeepers and passersby, who immediately contacted the police. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ravi Khundia stated that by the time law enforcement arrived, locals had already taken the injured Laxmi to a hospital for treatment. Tragically, Maya was found dead at the crime scene.
"Police took custody of the body and began the investigation. She was killed by her brother, Lala, who has been arrested," DSP Khundia added. The police have taken Lala into custody and are currently interrogating him to ascertain the motive behind this gruesome act. Preliminary information suggests that Maya had opened the parlour following her divorce.
Ongoing Probe and a Disturbing Pattern
A forensic team has been deployed to the beauty parlour to collect crucial evidence. The authorities have scheduled the post-mortem examination at PGI-Rohtak for Friday. The accused, Lala, is known to work as a vehicle insurance seller.
This tragic event marks the second such incident in Rohtak within approximately a month. On November 21, another man had stormed into his sister's in-laws' house and shot her dead for marrying against the family's wishes. The recurrence of such violent familial crimes has raised serious concerns in the community.
The investigation remains active as police work to piece together the events leading to the murder and establish a clear motive for the attack.
