In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Madhya Pradesh police have seized a consignment of brown sugar valued at Rs 1.29 crore in Indore. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the racket, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Details of the Operation
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Crime Branch conducted a raid in the Lasudia area of Indore. The accused were intercepted while attempting to deliver the contraband. During the search, police recovered approximately 215 grams of brown sugar, which is estimated to be worth Rs 1.29 crore in the illicit market.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi Sharma and Vikas Singh, both residents of Indore. Preliminary investigations suggest that the duo was part of a larger network involved in the supply of narcotics in the region. Police are now interrogating them to uncover the chain of suppliers and buyers.
Legal Proceedings
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Lasudia police station. The accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them to police custody for further investigation. Authorities are also probing whether the seized brown sugar was meant for local consumption or distribution to other states.
Senior police officials have lauded the team for the successful operation and reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug abuse from the state. They have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
This seizure comes amid heightened vigilance by law enforcement agencies across Madhya Pradesh to curb the illegal drug trade. In recent months, several such operations have been conducted, leading to the arrest of multiple offenders and the confiscation of significant quantities of narcotics.
