Deadly Collision on National Highway
A tragic road accident in Rajasthan's Jalore district on Sunday claimed two lives and left ten others injured after a speeding private bus collided head-on with a truck on the Sanchore Deesa National Highway near the Paladar border area. The impact of the crash was severe, mangling the front portions of both vehicles and forcing authorities to temporarily halt traffic to remove the wreckage.
The deceased have been identified as Hanjaram Meghwal (53), a resident of Sanchore who worked as a government schoolteacher, and Maru Khana (38), a bus conductor from Barmer. Both succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Sequence of Events
According to police, the passenger bus was en route from Bedia in Barmer district to Palanpur in Gujarat and had picked up passengers from Sanchore shortly before the accident. The truck was traveling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred on the stretch of highway known for heavy vehicle movement.
Station House Officer (SHO) Nainaram Chaudhary, who visited the scene, stated, "The impact was severe, damaging the front portions of both vehicles extensively." He added that rescue teams worked quickly to extricate the trapped victims and transport them to nearby hospitals.
Injured and Treatment
Of the ten injured, four are reported to be in serious condition and have been admitted to intensive care units at government and private hospitals in Sanchore. The remaining six sustained minor injuries and are stable. Medical staff are providing round-the-clock care, and authorities have arranged for blood transfusions for those in critical condition.
Among the injured are passengers who suffered fractures and head trauma. Families of the victims have been notified, and the district administration has assured all possible assistance.
Police Investigation
Police have detained the truck driver, his helper, and the bus driver for questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding may have been a contributing factor, though a full probe is underway. Officials are also examining the vehicles' logbooks and the drivers' records to determine if any negligence or violation of traffic rules occurred.
Traffic on the highway was diverted for several hours as cranes and recovery vehicles cleared the debris. The highway was reopened later in the evening after normal traffic flow was restored.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety on national highways in Rajasthan, where accidents due to overspeeding and driver fatigue are common. Local residents have urged authorities to install speed breakers and warning signs in accident-prone zones.
