Car showroom employee steals Rs 2.5 crore gold canopy

A 19-year-old employee of a car showroom in Indore has been arrested for allegedly stealing a gold canopy, a diamond-studded crown, silver coins, and an Apple iPhone valued at approximately Rs 2.5 crore. The theft was discovered on Wednesday when Surendra Chaudhary, the operations manager of Patel Motors on AB Road, filed a complaint with Lasudia police.

Details of the theft

According to the complaint, the stolen items included an Apple iPhone, a gold canopy and a diamond-studded crown belonging to the Khodiyar Mata temple, and 12 silver coins. These were kept inside the showroom owner’s cabin. A case was registered under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation was launched.

The accused, identified as Lucky Borasi, a resident of Kali Tanki in Badi Gwaltoli, had been working at the showroom for the past year. His familiarity with the premises allowed him to know where the keys were stored and that few employees would be present in the morning, making it easier to commit the crime.

Investigation and arrest

A special team was formed to examine CCTV footage, analyze technical evidence, and question employees. Suspicion fell on Borasi, who confessed during interrogation to stealing the iPhone and later opening the owner’s locker to take the gold canopy, diamond-studded crown, and silver coins.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Aman Singh Rathore stated that the accused hid the crown and canopy at his maternal grandparents’ house in Kodariya near Mhow, while keeping the iPhone and silver coins with himself. Investigators noted that Borasi had broken a portion of the gold canopy and sold some of it. Efforts are underway to recover the missing part. The combined weight of the gold canopy and diamond-studded crown is about 1.426 kg.

Recovery and legal proceedings

Police recovered the stolen articles and also seized a motorcycle from the accused. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at around Rs 2.5 crore. Borasi has been remanded to police custody, and authorities are questioning him to determine if anyone else was involved in or had knowledge of the crime.
