Notorious Cattle Smuggler Apprehended Following Intense Police Encounter in Azamgarh
In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, a notorious cattle smuggler named Naseem was arrested on Wednesday after sustaining a bullet injury to his leg during a dramatic exchange of fire with police personnel from the Rani Ki Sarai station in Azamgarh. The incident unfolded during an early morning operation, though two of Naseem's accomplices managed to evade capture and escape from the scene.
Substantial Cash Reward and Extensive Criminal History
The arrested individual, Naseem, carried a substantial cash reward of Rs50,000 on his head, highlighting his status as a high-priority target for authorities. Following his apprehension, police conducted a thorough search and seized multiple items from his possession, including a country-made pistol of .315 bore, an empty cartridge, a live misfired cartridge, two additional live cartridges, and a motorcycle used during the incident.
Azamgarh Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar provided detailed insights into the operation. He revealed that the police action was initiated based on a specific tip-off regarding the movement of cattle smugglers along the Sonwara-Baraila Taal road. In response, the Rani Ki Sarai police launched an extensive checking drive near the Chhaila Inar crossing during the early hours of the morning.
Chaotic Chase and Violent Confrontation
During the police operation, officers signaled several individuals traveling on a motorcycle to stop for inspection. However, instead of complying, the suspects attempted to flee by abruptly turning their vehicle toward the Baraila Taal road. The situation escalated rapidly when the motorcycle riders lost control and crashed to the ground.
In a desperate bid to escape custody, the suspects opened fire on the police team. The officers promptly retaliated in self-defense, leading to Naseem being struck by a bullet in his leg. Despite the police response, his two accomplices seized the opportunity to flee the scene and successfully escaped capture.
Longstanding Criminal Record and Medical Treatment
Naseem, identified as a resident of Kotila, has an extensive criminal background with a staggering 16 criminal cases already lodged against him. This arrest marks a crucial step in addressing his repeated involvement in illegal activities. After being taken into custody, police officials arranged for his immediate medical treatment, admitting him to a hospital to address the gunshot wound sustained during the encounter.
The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts by Azamgarh police to combat organized crime and cattle smuggling in the region, while the search continues for the two fugitive accomplices who managed to evade arrest during the chaotic confrontation.
