The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked two employees of the Ferozepur division of the Northern Railways for allegedly demanding a bribe from a colleague. The anti-corruption branch of the CBI, based in Chandigarh, registered a regular case following a trap operation and investigation conducted on June 12.

Details of the Bribery Case

According to the CBI, the accused are Vijay Kumar, technician-I, and Dharmveer, senior section engineer (SSE), both from the technical cadre of Northern Railways. They are posted in the administrative wing of the Ferozepur divisional office. The duo allegedly demanded Rs 60,000 from the complainant, Pawan Kumar, a senior clerk in the DRM office.

The bribe was sought in exchange for a favorable resolution regarding disciplinary proceedings linked to three chargesheets issued to the complainant on behalf of the divisional personnel officer (DPO), Bijendra. When the complainant failed to pay the bribe, the DPO imposed a penalty on him. Subsequently, both accused employees reiterated their monetary demand, assuring him that they could handle the penalty at the appellate level, while also warning of severe consequences if the amount was not paid.
