In a shocking incident in Chennai, two women, who were allegedly harassed and threatened by a male friend, planned and executed his murder with the help of their social media acquaintances. The crime occurred near Pallavaram on Thursday, sending ripples through the local community.
Police Arrest Three Suspects, Hunt for More
The Pallavaram police have taken swift action, arresting three individuals in connection with the murder. The arrested include two women, identified as Reena, aged 24, and Ratchitha, aged 25, both residents of Old Pallavaram. Additionally, a 17-year-old juvenile has been detained. Authorities are actively searching for three more suspects believed to be directly involved in the killing.
Investigations reveal that Reena and Ratchitha were close friends. Reena is married, while Ratchitha is unmarried. Both women were highly active on social media platforms, where they created reels and formed friendships with numerous young men online. Police reports indicate that they also extorted money from these men, funding a lavish lifestyle.
How the Friendship Turned Deadly
Reena first connected with Selvakumar, a 22-year-old construction worker from Tirusulam, through a social media site. Over time, Selvakumar developed a close relationship with both women. However, the situation took a dark turn when Selvakumar, often under the influence of alcohol, began harassing the women. He repeatedly threatened them, demanding they cut off contact with other men.
This constant harassment caused severe distress to Reena and Ratchitha. They reportedly feared that Selvakumar would continue to control and threaten them if he remained alive. Driven by this fear, the women made a drastic decision to eliminate him.
The Murder Plot Unfolds
Reena and Ratchitha discussed their plan with friends, including Alex, aged 24, and the 17-year-old boy, along with two others. On Wednesday night, around 10 pm, Reena called Selvakumar and asked him to meet them at Subam Nagar near Old Pallavaram.
When Selvakumar arrived at the location on his two-wheeler, four men approached on two bikes. They chased him down and attacked him brutally with machetes. Selvakumar collapsed on the road with severe injuries, while the attackers fled the scene immediately.
The case highlights the dangers of online relationships turning violent and the extreme measures some individuals may take when faced with persistent threats. The Pallavaram police continue their investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice.
