Father Detained After Child's Chocolate Demand Causes Panic
A man rushing to catch a train at Jagraon railway station was detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after his young son's tantrum for a chocolate led bystanders to suspect kidnapping. The incident, which unfolded on the evening of July 4, 2026, resulted in the father being held for nearly two hours before authorities confirmed his identity.
Misunderstanding Sparks Social Media Frenzy
The commotion began when the child started screaming and crying for a chocolate as his father hurried towards the train to Ferozepur. Unable to stop due to time constraints, the father continued walking, which alarmed nearby passengers. Some bystanders recorded the scene and uploaded videos on social media, labeling the man a potential kidnapper.
Railway police post in-charge Prakash Singh stated, "We spent nearly two hours examining every document and aspect related to the man and the child. We were able to ascertain the man was the child's father, and not a kidnapper." The videos triggered widespread panic among passengers at the station.
Investigation Clears Father
The RPF scrutinized the man's identification, travel tickets, and other documents, along with verifying the child's statements. After confirming the biological relationship, the duo was allowed to board the next train to Ferozepur. "The two were respectfully seen off to their destination on the next train," Singh added.
The incident highlights the risks of misinformation spreading rapidly on social media, where unverified videos can lead to false accusations. The father, whose name has not been released, was ultimately reunited with his child without further incident.
