Major Narcotics Bust in Chittorgarh: Police Seize Over 600 kg of Illicit Plants
In a significant crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, police in Chittorgarh district conducted coordinated raids late Friday night, resulting in the arrest of an uncle-nephew duo and the seizure of a massive quantity of contraband plants. The operation targeted farms in Sukdi village under the jurisdiction of the Rashmi police station, where authorities uncovered a sophisticated attempt to conceal narcotics production.

Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi confirmed that the action was part of an ongoing district-wide drive to curb the cultivation and trade of illegal narcotics. A specialized team, supervised by Additional SP Sarita Singh and led by Rashmi Station House Officer Ratan Singh, executed raids on two separate agricultural plots. According to police reports, the accused had strategically planted opium and cannabis plants amidst legitimate crops like cotton and mustard in an effort to evade detection by law enforcement.

The operation yielded a substantial haul of illicit substances. Overall, police confiscated 3,644 opium plants with an approximate total weight of 540 kilograms, alongside 23 cannabis plants weighing nearly 63 kilograms. Specifically, from the field belonging to Pappulal Jat, authorities recovered 3,531 opium plants weighing 516.73 kg and 23 cannabis plants weighing 62.98 kg. A subsequent search of Thakar Lal Jat's field led to the seizure of an additional 113 opium plants weighing 23.85 kg.
Identification of the Accused and Legal Proceedings
The arrested individuals have been identified as 35-year-old Pappulal Jat and 52-year-old Thakar Lal Jat, both residents of Lukdi village within the Rashmi area. Police have registered formal cases against the duo under relevant legal provisions pertaining to narcotics offenses. Authorities have emphasized that further investigation and interrogation of the accused are currently underway to uncover potential links to broader drug trafficking networks.
This decisive action underscores the commitment of Chittorgarh police to dismantle illegal drug operations and highlights the innovative tactics employed by cultivators to hide their activities. The seizure represents one of the largest recent busts in the region, aiming to disrupt the supply chain of narcotics and send a strong message against such illicit practices.
