The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal police has taken over the investigation into the murder of BJP functionary Prasanta Dey in Bagnan, Howrah, following the orders of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. On Saturday, a CID team visited Dey's residence and spoke to his wife, Soma Dey, and other family members to gather details about the incident.
CID Team Records Statements and Visits Crime Scene
After visiting the victim's home, the same team proceeded to record the statements of family members of the main accused, Sheikh Mofizul Islam Khan. The investigators then went to the crime scene at Paikpara, where they interacted with local residents to collect evidence and eyewitness accounts.
Background of the Clashes
The murder took place amid violent clashes between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP workers on Wednesday night in Bagnan. The confrontation led to Dey's death and left three others seriously injured. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, where Minister Indranil Khan visited them on Saturday to assess their condition.
Ongoing Investigation
The CID's involvement marks a significant escalation in the probe, as the state government seeks to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the politically charged incident. Authorities have not yet made any arrests, but the CID is expected to expedite the process based on the evidence collected so far.
