Coimbatore Bus Driver and Conductor Arrested Following Reckless Driving Incident
In a serious traffic incident in Coimbatore, a private bus driver and conductor have been arrested after their reckless driving caused an autorickshaw carrying school students to overturn on Trichy Road. The arrests were made on Friday, following the accident that occurred earlier in the week.
Details of the Arrested Individuals
The police have identified the arrested individuals as M. Sivasakthi, 29, the bus driver, and K. Prabhu, 29, the conductor. Both face charges of negligence and complicity in dangerous driving, highlighting the severity of their actions.
Sequence of the Accident
The accident took place on Wednesday when an autorickshaw, driven by K Nalina, 58, of Ramanathapuram, was transporting school students. According to police reports, when Nalina attempted a u-turn, a private bus on route number 8A, traveling from Podanur to Chinthamanipudur, crashed into the auto.
The impact was forceful enough to cause the autorickshaw to overturn onto its right side. Prompt action by the public and traffic police led to the rescue of the trapped students from the overturned vehicle.
Injuries and Immediate Aftermath
In the aftermath of the collision, Nalina sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the schoolchildren involved in the accident escaped without life-threatening injuries, a relief in what could have been a more tragic outcome.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The traffic investigation wing (East) police registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Police revealed that Sivasakthi had been speeding due to time pressure on his route, a factor that contributed to the dangerous driving.
Both the driver and conductor were produced before the judicial magistrate VIII Court and have been remanded in custody at the Coimbatore central prison, awaiting further legal proceedings.
This incident underscores the critical importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations, especially when transporting vulnerable passengers like school children. Authorities continue to emphasize the need for responsible driving to prevent such hazardous occurrences in the future.
