A late-night trip to dispose of kitchen garbage turned fatal for a young man in Coimbatore after a confrontation with a stray dog led to a tragic road accident.
The Fatal Incident Near Telungupalayam
The unfortunate event unfolded on Saturday night around 11:30 PM in the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar 2nd Street area near Telungupalayam. A Akash Kumar, aged 22, a native of Ramanathapuram district, was riding pillion on a two-wheeler driven by his friend and roommate, Mathan Kumar, also 22, from Dindigul district. Both were employed at a private firm and shared accommodation in Telungupalayam.
According to police reports, the duo was on their way to discard chicken waste after their dinner. Akash Kumar was holding the bag containing the leftovers while seated behind Mathan Kumar.
How the Stray Dog Caused the Crash
As the two-wheeler navigated the street, a stray dog, presumably attracted by the smell of the chicken, made a sudden attempt to snatch the bag from Akash Kumar's hand. The canine reportedly jumped onto the moving vehicle in its effort to get the food waste.
This aggressive move caused the rider, Mathan Kumar, to lose control of the bike. Both young men were thrown onto the road in the ensuing chaos. The impact of the fall proved devastating for Akash Kumar.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
Local residents rushed to the scene and found Akash Kumar with a significant injury to his nose. He was immediately transported to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for emergency care. However, upon examination, the doctors declared him 'brought dead'.
Following the tragedy, the Traffic Investigation Wing (West) of the Coimbatore police has registered a formal case and initiated a detailed investigation into the precise circumstances of the accident.
This incident has once again highlighted the dual issues of road safety and the management of stray animals in urban areas, culminating in an unexpected and heartbreaking loss of a young life.
