The Panchkula police have arrested a 33-year-old woman for allegedly stealing gold and diamond jewellery worth approximately Rs 40 lakh from the home of a 91-year-old woman in Mansa Devi, Panchkula. The stolen jewellery has been recovered.
Complaint and Investigation
A resident of Chandigarh filed a complaint on June 13, accusing the domestic helper, who worked as a cook for her elderly mother-in-law, of stealing valuable jewellery. The theft occurred at the elderly woman's residence in Mansa Devi. Following the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections at the Mansa Devi police station, and an investigation was launched.
Arrest and Recovery
During the probe, the accused, identified as Heena (33), a resident of Manimajra in Chandigarh, was arrested on June 20. She was produced before a court on June 21 and remanded to two-day police custody. During interrogation, Heena provided crucial information that led to the recovery of the stolen jewellery, valued at around Rs 40 lakh. She was subsequently remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
The police have confirmed the recovery of the stolen items and are continuing their investigation.
