Cousin Kills Canteen Owner in Gurgaon Over Past Business Dispute

Gurgaon police have arrested two men for the brutal murder of a 50-year-old canteen owner. The shocking crime reveals a tale of family betrayal and meticulous planning.

Victim Attacked Near Rama Park

Sanjay Sharma, a resident of Basai Enclave Part-2, met a tragic end on January 6. He was shot dead near Rama Park in Sector 37D. Police found him lying injured in a pool of blood by the roadside early that morning.

Emergency responders rushed him to Civil Hospital at Sector 10. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination followed the grim discovery.

Family Files Complaint

Sanjay's son lodged a formal complaint with authorities. He stated his father left home in his car for his canteen at Sector 34 on January 6 morning. Unidentified persons attacked him during the journey.

The Sector 10 police station registered an FIR for murder on January 7. The case quickly transferred to the Crime Branch. Investigators moved swiftly to identify and apprehend the culprits.

Arrests Made Across States

Police identified the arrested accused as Gurudatt Sharma alias Baleshwar Sharma, aged 56, from Dahkora village in Rohtak. The second accused is Anil, 48, from Kandora village in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.

Officers apprehended Gurudatt from Dehradun in Uttarakhand on January 10. They produced him in court the next day. The court remanded him to four days of police custody.

Anil faced arrest from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Both men now face serious charges for their alleged roles in the murder.

Business Partnership Turns Deadly

Investigators uncovered a troubling family connection. Gurudatt happens to be the maternal cousin of the deceased Sanjay Sharma. Both men jointly operated a business until 2011-12.

Differences led to the business closure. Repeated disputes followed over the years. Gurudatt harbored a long grudge over the fallout from their failed partnership.

He currently runs a cafe in Dehradun. Anil works as a private bus driver in Muzaffarnagar. The two men have known each other for about a decade.

Meticulous Planning and Payment

Gurudatt planned the murder with Anil and others. Anil conducted reconnaissance in late December to study Sanjay's movements and patterns.

On January 6, they executed their plan near Rama Park. They rammed Sanjay's vehicle to force him to step out. Gurudatt then shot him at close range.

Police revealed Gurudatt paid Anil Rs 10 lakh for his role. The payment covered both the reconnaissance and the execution of the crime.

YouTube Videos Inspired Crime Methods

The accused made a startling admission during questioning. They watched videos on YouTube to get ideas about committing murder and evading detection.

This mirrors another recent Gurgaon case. In August 2025, police arrested a man for murder. That accused also took ideas from the Internet to kill and dispose of a body.

Investigation Continues

The Gurgaon police investigation remains active and ongoing. Officers work diligently to trace and arrest other persons involved in the case.

They examine all evidence and follow every lead. The community watches closely as this disturbing case unfolds in India's bustling millennium city.
