The Nampally Criminal Court in Hyderabad has provided a final lifeline to prominent members of the Daggubati family, granting them one more opportunity to present themselves in person. This decision came on Friday after actors Daggubati Venkatesh, Daggubati Rana, and producers Suresh Babu and Abhiram failed to appear as previously mandated by the court.
Court's Stern Directive After Repeated Absences
Despite clear prior orders requiring their physical presence for the submission of personal bonds, the four accused were notably absent from the proceedings. The court, taking serious note of this absence, has now issued a firm directive. The individuals must appear in person on January 23, 2025, marking what the court implies is a final chance to comply with its orders.
This development is part of an ongoing legal battle where the court had earlier rejected personal bonds submitted through the family's legal counsel, insisting on the accused's personal appearance. The repeated failure to comply has added a layer of complexity to the high-profile case.
Roots of the Case: Alleged Illegal Demolition and Theft
The case originates from a complaint filed by hotel owner Nanda Kumar. He alleges that his establishment, the Deccan Kitchen hotel in Film Nagar, was illegally and partially demolished on November 13, 2022. According to his complaint, the demolition was carried out by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in collaboration with members of the Daggubati family and private bouncers.
Nanda Kumar's allegations are severe. He claims that during this action, equipment and material worth crores of rupees were stolen from the premises. Dissatisfied with the police response, he approached the Nampally court in January 2024. The court conducted a preliminary inquiry and subsequently ordered the registration of a formal case against the accused.
A Second Demolition and Police Inaction Alleged
The situation escalated further in early 2024. The complainant alleges that while the court proceedings were still pending, the hotel building was completely razed in January 2024. He states this second demolition was executed using private security personnel.
Frustrated by what he perceived as inaction, Nanda Kumar claimed that his complaints to the Film Nagar police yielded no results. This forced him to approach the court once again. Acting on the court's fresh directions, the Film Nagar police finally registered a formal case in January 2025, setting the stage for the current legal showdown.
The court's latest order for personal appearance on January 23 now sets a critical deadline for the Daggubati family members. Their compliance or lack thereof will likely determine the next, potentially more stringent, phase of legal action in this contentious property dispute.
