The body of a 50-year-old daily wager was discovered in a field near a tube well room in Kular village, Jagraon town, Ludhiana, on Monday morning, June 30, 2026. The victim, identified as Baijnath Yadav, a resident of Lakshmipur Bilahi village in Bihar, had been working as a farm labourer in the area for 22 years.

Dispute over bicycle sale leads to murder

According to preliminary investigations by Chowkiman police station officials, the murder stemmed from a dispute over the sale of a bicycle. The suspect, Chaklesh Yadav, also a native of Bilahi village in Bihar, had sold Baijnath's bicycle some time ago, sparking a conflict between the two. Late on Sunday night, the dispute escalated, and Chaklesh allegedly attacked Baijnath with a sharp weapon, killing him on the spot.

Body discovered by farm owner

The incident came to light on Monday morning when the farm owner, Pradeep Singh, found the body and alerted the police. Officers from the Chowkiman police station arrived at the scene and initiated a probe. The body was sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Suspect known to be alcoholic, say residents

Local residents reported that both the suspect and the victim had been working as labourers in Kular village for an extended period. They described Chaklesh Yadav as an alcoholic and suspected that he committed the crime under the influence of alcohol. Police officials confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect.
