Dalit Labourer Brutally Assaulted Over Unpaid Wages in Amroha District
A shocking incident of violence has emerged from Amroha district, where a 24-year-old Dalit labourer was allegedly stripped and brutally beaten for demanding his pending wages. The assault occurred in Dabarasi village of the Hasanpur area on Sunday, sparking widespread outrage after a video of the incident circulated on social media platforms.
Details of the Assault and Police Response
According to police reports, the victim, identified as Sachin Kumar, is a resident of Dhabarsi village under the Adampur police station. Sachin works as a mason and was engaged in installing ceilings at an under-construction house, alongside his two brothers. On Sunday morning, when his brothers arrived to take him to another worksite, Sachin demanded unpaid wages totalling Rs 1.5 lakh from his employer.
This demand quickly escalated into a heated argument, which soon turned violent. The accused allegedly cornered Sachin on the road and subjected him to a brutal physical assault. A bystander recorded the entire incident on a mobile phone and subsequently posted the video online, where it rapidly gained traction.
Following the viral spread of the video, police swiftly registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Adampur police station. The case has been filed under multiple sections, including BNS sections 115(2), 351(2), and 352, along with Section 3(2)(Va) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, highlighting the caste-based nature of the abuse.
Arrests Made and Official Statements
Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the assault and caste abuse case. The accused have been identified as Mohammad Nausad, Samayuddin, and their father Haseen Khan. Their arrest underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating this incident, particularly given the involvement of caste-based discrimination and the violent denial of rightful wages.
The case has drawn attention to the broader issues of wage theft and violence against marginalized communities in rural areas. Labour rights activists have pointed out that such incidents are not isolated but reflect systemic problems where workers, especially from Dalit backgrounds, often face exploitation and intimidation when asserting their legal rights.
Broader Implications and Community Impact
This assault has ignited discussions on social media and within local communities about the safety and dignity of labourers. The use of digital platforms to expose such crimes has proven crucial in prompting police action, as seen in this case where the viral video led to immediate arrests.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined, including the motive behind the assault and any potential negligence in wage payment practices. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by daily wage workers and the urgent need for stronger enforcement of labour laws and anti-discrimination statutes.
