In a significant crackdown on the sale of counterfeit automotive products, police in Daltonganj have arrested a local resident and seized a large quantity of fake lubricants. The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about spurious automotive parts and lubricants in the market, which can cause severe damage to vehicles.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
The Haidernagar police station took action on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of Khurshid Alam, a 51-year-old resident of Islamnagar. According to Officer in-charge Dhananjay Gope, the operation resulted in the confiscation of 471 litres of suspected spurious lubricant. The illegal stock was discovered at Alam's garage, which operates under the name Aman Automobile and is situated in the Islamnagar area.
Investigation Uncovers Supply Chain
During initial interrogation, the accused revealed a key detail about the supply chain. He confessed to receiving the counterfeit lubricants from a contact based in Kolkata. This admission has widened the scope of the investigation, suggesting the operation may be part of a larger interstate network. Police officials have confirmed that a further investigation is currently underway to trace the source and identify other individuals involved in the racket.
Legal Charges and Implications
Khurshid Alam now faces serious legal consequences for his alleged actions. He has been booked under stringent sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Copyright Act. The specific charges include:
- Section 318 (Cheating) of the BNS.
- Section 349 (Selling goods marked with a counterfeit property mark) of the BNS.
- Sections 63 and 65 (Infringement) of the Copyright Act.
These charges reflect the gravity of selling counterfeit goods, which not only cheats consumers but also infringes on intellectual property rights and poses safety risks. The case serves as a warning to others involved in similar illicit trade of fake automotive products.
