Dehradun Police Crack Down on Prostitution Racket in Cantonment Area
In a significant operation, Dehradun police have successfully busted a prostitution racket allegedly being run from a residential house in a colony under the Cantonment police station area. The raid, conducted on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, led to the arrest of three individuals, including a woman suspected to be the key accused, and the rescue of three other women from the premises.
Joint Police Operation Based on Specific Input
Following specific intelligence received by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobal, a joint team comprising the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) and local police launched a coordinated raid. The operation targeted the house, which was owned by the arrested woman, where the illegal activities were reportedly centered.
During the raid, officials discovered at least four men and women in a compromising position and seized objectionable items from the location. Investigators revealed that the racket was being operated from this house, with the woman allegedly using an instant messaging app to facilitate and manage the illicit business. Two men were also arrested under the provisions of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, highlighting the seriousness of the charges.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
The arrested individuals were produced before a local court on Tuesday and subsequently sent to jail as the legal process unfolds. Police sources indicate that the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details and potential links in the racket.
This bust underscores the proactive efforts of law enforcement in Dehradun to combat human trafficking and immoral activities. The use of digital platforms like messaging apps in such operations points to evolving methods in illegal enterprises, necessitating vigilant policing.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help curb such crimes in the community. The rescued women are being provided with necessary support and counseling as part of the rehabilitation process.
