A 34-year-old man, Chandan Sharma, was arrested in southeast Delhi's Mithapur for allegedly assaulting his wife and two children during a domestic dispute, leading to the death of his two-year-old son. The incident occurred in Lakhpat Colony Part 2, under the jurisdiction of Jaitpur police station.
Incident Details
Police received a PCR call around 1:30 pm on Friday reporting domestic violence. A police team rushed to the spot, where the woman, who works as a househelp, claimed that her husband had brutally beaten her and their two minors following an argument at home. The accused, a daily wage carpenter, was found to be addicted to alcohol and narcotic substances, which led to frequent quarrels in the family.
Injuries and Fatality
The two-year-old boy was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital with injuries but succumbed on Saturday. The mother and the four-year-old sister sustained minor injuries and are medically fit, police said. “The boy was hurt in his stomach during the altercation which proved to be fatal,” a senior police officer said.
Accused's Background
The officer added that the accused father had previously been involved in a heated quarrel with his father around a year back. The family's financial situation is precarious, with the mother working as a househelp and the father as a daily wage carpenter.
