Delhi Man Apprehended in Visakhapatnam After Four-Year Cannabis Case Evasion

Police in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalle district have finally caught a man from Delhi who spent nearly four years avoiding arrest in a cannabis case. The Nathavaram police made the arrest, bringing a long-running investigation to a close.

Accused Identified as Rohit Kumar

Officers identified the arrested individual as Rohit Kumar. He is thirty-nine years old and originally comes from West Delhi. Police records show he is the main suspect in a case filed back in 2022.

The case was registered at the Nathavaram Police Station. Authorities charged him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, commonly known as the NDPS Act.

Years of Evasion and Court Warrant

Since the case began, Rohit Kumar successfully avoided capture. His continuous evasion led the court to take strict action. A non-bailable warrant was issued against him, highlighting the seriousness of the charges.

This warrant meant police could arrest him without the option of bail, putting significant pressure on law enforcement to locate him.

Police Surveillance and Delhi Operation

Sub-inspector Y Tarakeswara Rao from Nathavaram Police Station led the effort to find the accused. He and his team maintained close watch, gathering intelligence over time.

Their persistence paid off when they received solid information about Rohit Kumar's whereabouts. The tip pointed them to Delhi, far from the original crime scene in Andhra Pradesh.

Acting quickly on this lead, the police team traveled to the national capital. They located and apprehended Rohit Kumar in Delhi, ending his years on the run.

Return to Andhra Pradesh and Court Proceedings

After the arrest in Delhi, officers brought Rohit Kumar back to Nathavaram in Anakapalle district. They presented him before the local court for remand proceedings.

Anakapalle district police chief Tuhin Sinha confirmed these details. He emphasized that Rohit Kumar was the prime accused in this long-pending NDPS Act case.

The arrest demonstrates police commitment to pursuing cases even when suspects flee across state lines. It closes a chapter that began with the 2022 cannabis case registration in Visakhapatnam's surrounding district.
