Delhi Police arrest gangster after 800-km chase in Agra

The Delhi Police have arrested a history-sheeter linked to the Ashok Pradhan gang and apprehended three juveniles following an 800-kilometre inter-state chase that ended in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday. The operation foiled a potential fresh escalation in an ongoing gang rivalry, officials confirmed on Friday.

Arrest and Apprehension Details

Mohit Bhardwaj, 29, a resident of Najafgarh, was arrested, while three juveniles were also taken into custody from a hideout in Agra. According to police, the four individuals were wanted in three separate cases involving knife assault, abduction, and attempt to murder. These cases are linked to the ongoing conflict between two factions of the Ashok Pradhan gang operating in the Najafgarh area.

Police officials stated that the accused had fled Delhi and frequently changed locations across Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh to evade arrest. After tracking their movements for several days, a police team raided their hideout in Agra and apprehended Mohit along with the three juveniles.

Recovery of Vehicle and Criminal Background

A car allegedly used in one of the abduction cases, registered on June 15, was recovered during the operation. Police said Mohit is an active member of the Ashok Pradhan gang and has a criminal record involving serious offences such as murder, attempt to murder, armed robbery, and violations of the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway.

Gang Rivalry and Escalation Prevention

The arrests are seen as a significant step in curbing gang-related violence in the Najafgarh region. The rivalry between the two factions of the Ashok Pradhan gang has been a persistent law and order challenge, with multiple cases of violence reported in recent months. The police action is expected to deter further escalation.
