Delhi Police Nab History-Sheeter After Knife Attack

Two Delhi Police officers demonstrated remarkable bravery on Saturday in Outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area. Head Constable Kuldeep and Constable Neeraj sustained knife injuries while attempting to arrest a known criminal, but they refused to back down and successfully apprehended the suspect.

Chase and Confrontation

The incident unfolded on January 17 when the two officers were on patrol duty near Gupta Colony. They received specific information about the presence of Ravi, also known as Panchi, in the area. Police intelligence indicated he was armed and planning to commit a robbery.

"Considering the potential threat to public safety, the policemen moved immediately to intercept the suspect," explained Deputy Commissioner of Police Hareshwar Swami. "When Ravi noticed the police team approaching, he attempted to flee the scene."

A dramatic chase followed through the neighborhood. The officers pursued the suspect on foot and eventually caught up with him. What happened next tested their courage to the limit.

Violent Resistance and Injuries

While resisting arrest, Ravi allegedly attacked both police personnel with a sharp-edged weapon. The assault left Head Constable Kuldeep with two stab injuries to his upper back and near his armpit area.

Constable Neeraj also faced multiple attacks. The accused struck at his waist three times during the struggle. Fortunately, his service belt blocked two of these blows, but he still sustained a puncture injury to his hip.

Successful Apprehension

Despite their injuries, both officers displayed extraordinary determination. They prevented the accused from escaping and managed to overpower him completely. During the subsequent search, police recovered a loaded country-made pistol from Ravi's possession.

The injured personnel received immediate medical attention and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition remains stable as they recover from the attack.

Criminal Background and Charges

Police identified the arrested individual as Ravi, a 38-year-old resident of Shahbad Dairy. Investigators described him as a known bad character with an extensive criminal record.

"Ravi has at least twelve previous cases registered against him," a police official confirmed. "These include charges of robbery, snatching, house-breaking, and multiple violations under the Arms Act at police stations including Shahbad Dairy and Samaypur Badli."

Authorities have registered a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These include Section 109(1) for attempt to murder, Section 132 for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty, and Section 221 for obstructing a public servant in official functions. Relevant provisions of the Arms Act have also been invoked.

Recognition and Impact

Senior Delhi Police officials have commended both Kuldeep and Neeraj for their courageous actions during the operation. Their intervention proved crucial in preventing what could have been a serious criminal offense in the area.

"Their bravery not only led to the arrest of a dangerous criminal but also resulted in the recovery of an illegal weapon," a police statement noted. "This potentially saved lives and prevented further crimes."

The police department has initiated the process for recognizing their valor. Recommendations for awards and commendations for both officers are currently under consideration and review by senior authorities.

This incident highlights the daily risks faced by police personnel while maintaining law and order in Delhi's neighborhoods. It also demonstrates how quick thinking and courage can neutralize threats to public safety even in dangerous situations.
